Hiring Generative AI & LLM Engineers
Define the responsibilities, evaluation experience and software skills your generative AI hire needs when engaging our specialist network.

Start with the application, not the model
A knowledge assistant, document extraction workflow and customer-facing writing tool can need very different experience. Describe the users, the information available and the consequences of an incorrect response. Explain whether the person will explore feasibility, improve an existing application or take ownership of a live service. These choices are more useful to a specialist than a long list of model names.
Separate the responsibilities
An LLM engineer may work on retrieval, model adaptation and evaluation. A generative AI engineer may focus more broadly on the application, its interfaces and integration. Titles overlap: agree who owns the data pipeline, permissions, user experience and deployment. If those foundations are missing, a single specialist appointment may need support from data and platform engineers.
Look for evidence beyond a demonstration
Ask the specialist to explain a system they personally helped deliver. How did they choose representative test cases? What happened when information was missing, contradictory or out of date? Explore how they compared approaches, investigated failures and balanced response quality with latency and cost. Ask what changed after real users tried it. A polished demonstration alone does not show how a system behaves under everyday constraints.
Use a realistic interview discussion
Present a fictional brief: employees need answers from internal documents, but access varies by team. Ask how the specialist would clarify the requirement, evaluate useful answers and prevent inappropriate disclosure. The purpose is to understand their reasoning and the assumptions they challenge. Avoid asking them to build your production solution or share confidential work from a previous employer.
Prepare a focused hiring brief
Record the application, users, data sources, access constraints, existing engineering support and first responsibilities. Distinguish essential experience from tools that can be learned. Theseus uses that context to focus conversations with specialists and explain why an opportunity fits their experience and ambitions.
Find relevant specialist expertise
Theseus is your lifetime Data & AI resourcing partner. We take time to understand your priorities, the people around the role and the experience your next appointment needs.
Explore the relevant roles
For each engagement, clarify the scope, duration, working arrangements, agreed services and client dependencies. Plan access and handover so the knowledge gained stays with your team. Theseus focuses on UK resourcing and considers European and international requirements individually.
